Brandnertal & Bürser gorge

Just past Bludenz the Brandnertal branches off, and right at its entrance the Alvier stream has cut a gorge through the 'Bürs conglomerate' since the last ice age – cemented pebbles that look like concrete. The path crosses several narrow footbridges through the gorge, passes the 'Kuhloch', a dry side gorge, and climbs to the larch meadows of Bürserberg; our route measures 3 km with 150 m of ascent, about 1½ hours, while the longer loop via Bürserberg described by the tourist board takes a good 2 hours. The gorge is a natural monument, closed in winter and reopened at the end of April in 2026.

Further up the valley lies Brand (1,037 m), settled by Walser families in the 14th century. From there the Dorfbahn and Panoramabahn run (14 May–1 Nov 2026), from Bürserberg the Loischkopfbahn opened in December 2025 – all included with the Freizeit-WildPass in summer. The Natursprünge trail is made for families: 4.7 km downhill with eleven hands-on stations about forest and water, pushchair-friendly, with handcart hire at the cable car and the Frööd mountain restaurant (1,680 m) at the end; plus a barefoot path, the Alvierbad pool and a high-rope course. At the head of the valley waits the Lünersee (cable car 23 May–26 Oct 2026). From our house it is 23 km / 32 minutes to Bürs; bus 580 runs from Bludenz through the whole valley to the Lünersee cable car.
