Muttersberg & alpine inn (Bludenz)

Eight minutes by gondola from the edge of Bludenz to 1,401 m: mountain inn with panoramic terrace, huge play room and easy paths – all year, Fridays until 10 pm.

all year 👨‍👩‍👧 Family friendly 🍼 Stroller friendly 🐕 Dogs allowed 🌧️ Also in bad weather 🎫 Included with the Freizeit-WildPass

The Muttersberg is Bludenz's local mountain: a sunny scattered settlement at 1,300 to 1,400 m on the Madeisakopf above Nüziders, looking out over the Rätikon, the Walgau and into the Montafon. The first cable car ran in 1956; since 2002 an 8-seater gondola has glided from the valley station at Bludenz-Hinterplärsch (679 m) to the top station at 1,401 m in eight minutes – more than 700 m of altitude. Right beside it stands the Alpengasthof Muttersberg with a large panoramic terrace, an outdoor playground and an indoor play area said to be the largest play room in Vorarlberg, which makes the mountain a good family option even in unsettled weather.

From the top station easy paths lead to the Tiefenseesattel (1,562 m) and on to the Frassenhütte (1,725 m); experienced walkers climb the Hoher Fraßen (1,979 m). An art trail with sculptures, pony rides in summer and a mountain bike trail back down complete the offer. The cable car runs all year from 9 am to 5 pm, Fridays until 10 pm; a return ticket costs €25 for adults and €15 for children (as of 2026) and is included with the Freizeit-WildPass. From our house it is 26 km / 32 minutes; alternatively bus 650 and the Montafonerbahn to Bludenz, then town bus 501 to Oberdaneu, two minutes from the valley station. Parking at the valley station is charged (€0.70 per hour, daily maximum €4.50, according to the tourist office).
