Feldkirch wildlife park

Feldkirch wildlife park sits on the wooded Ardetzenberg right above the old town and has been run by a volunteer association since 1963. Some 10 hectares of spacious enclosures are home to over 160 animals of 26 species – red and fallow deer, ibex, chamois, wild boar, marmots, wildcats and raccoons, plus wolves and lynx, which you rarely get to see anywhere else in Vorarlberg. In 2026 an aurochs calf was even born here. The park is open around the clock and there is no admission charge – a donation is welcome, and feed for the animals comes from the dispensers along the path.

An afternoon is enough: a circuit of the enclosures, the forest playground with its wooden train, the barbecue site by the red deer and the kiosk (Wednesday to Sunday). If you walk up from the old town, take the Weinbergstiege steps – and round off the visit with the Schattenburg castle and the Marktgasse afterwards. From our house it is about 45 km and 47 minutes via the A14; by train from Bludenz to Feldkirch, then on foot or by town bus to Busplatz or Katzenturm. Parking on the hill is charged; the former free shuttle from the station stopped running in 2025.
