Kristberg – Sonnenkopf MTB loop (from Dalaas)

This mountain bike loop is recorded in OpenStreetMap as an official Vorarlberg bike tour and uses the forest and alp roads that link the Kristberg with the Sonnenkopf. It starts in Dalaas in the Klostertal (840 m). The first climb takes the forest road up to the Kristberg (Innerkristberg, about 1,450 m) – the “connoisseurs' mountain” with its panorama inn and Knappastoba is a first place to stop. Then, on the Montafon side, the route heads along the Vogelries and Wasserstoba tracks into the quiet Wasserstubental before switching back north over the ridge to reach the Klostertal at the Sonnenkopf (1,840 m, the highest point). The descent runs via the Bezelezug track to Wald am Arlberg and back to Dalaas on the valley cycle path.

At about 30 km and 1,200 m of climbing the loop is a sporty half-day ride mostly on gravel, with short steep ramps and a few meadow sections in between. OSM grades it “intermediate”; there are no technically demanding trails, but you need fitness. From our house it is a 25-minute drive to Dalaas – or start in Silbertal and add the Kristberg climb from the Montafon side.
