Ronggalpe

Staffed alp at around 1,600 m above Gargellen with a snack platter and views of the Ritzen peaks – a good hour from the village, ideal after the Rongg via ferrata.

all year 🌧️ Also in bad weather

The Rongg alp lies at around 1,600 m on the slope above Gargellen, the highest village in the Montafon (1,423 m), with open views of the Ritzen peaks and the Rongg. It is a staffed alp in the classic sense: cattle on the pasture, a bench with a view and a snack platter of regional specialities – cheese, bacon, bread – for everyone who walks up. Like almost all alps in the valley it is part of the Montafon's three-stage farming, in which farmers and cattle move from the valley via the Maisäß settlements up to the alps; Gargellen itself was settled by the Walser in the 14th century, and the alps around the village have been in use ever since.

From the valley station of the Schafberg cable car or the tourist office in Gargellen an alp track climbs in hairpins, then a path leads to the Rongg alp; the loop via the lower and upper Röbi alps back to the village is about 4 km long and takes around 1½ hours. If you do the Rongg waterfall via ferrata, this is the stop on the way back; from the top of the Schafberg cable car the alp can also be reached via the St. Antönier Jöchli. From our holiday house it is 10 km, or 20 minutes on bus 670 to Gargellen Schafbergbahn – free parking at the valley station.

🧭 Route description
