Tübinger Hütte (2,191 m)
Quiet Alpine Club hut at the far end of the Garneratal above Gaschurn: 4 to 5 hours' approach, 85 sleeping places, organic cooking – July to September.
The Tübinger Hütte of the DAV Tübingen section lies at 2,191 m at the very end of the Garneratal, a long, car-free side valley that begins at Gaschurn. Opened in 1908 and most recently thoroughly renovated between 2017 and 2022 (kitchen, sanitary facilities, heating, treatment plant), it now offers space for around 85 guests in multi-bed rooms and dormitories plus a winter room with 10 places. The tenant since 2022 is Tim Härter; the kitchen relies on regional and organic ingredients, dinner is at 6 pm. In front of the hut are a terrace looking down the valley, a climbing garden and boulders; the hut carries the environmental seal. All around stand the Hochmaderer (2,823 m), Plattenspitzen, Großlitzner and Großes Seehorn – objectives for experienced mountaineers. The English Wikivoyage article on the Montafon mentions the hut as an unusual venue for the valley's summer concerts.
The approach is what defines this hut: from Gaschurn (car park Garnerastraße) through the Garneratal via the Outer and Inner Garnera alps in 4 to 5 hours and about 1,230 m of ascent – the whole way on foot, the valley is car-free. Alternatives: from the Vermunt reservoir over the Hochmadererjoch (3½ to 4½ hours) or from the Versettla cable car via the Erich-Endriß-Weg (5½ to 6 hours). From our house it is 4 km to Gaschurn (bus 650 about 10 minutes). Crossings: Saarbrücker Hütte 2½ hours, Madlenerhaus 3 to 4½ hours. Season 2026 from 1 July, usually until the end of September.
