The Gargellner Fenster is a natural rock window in the ridge above Gargellen – through the opening you look at the mountains as if through a frame. The themed trail from the Schafberg cable car leads a good seven kilometres with just under 400 m of ascent to the window and back, across alpine meadows with views of the Madrisa, Rätikon and Silvretta. About three hours, moderate; a tangible goal for children, a must for photographers.

Gargellen is 20 minutes away by bus (line 670); the cable car ride is included with the Freizeit-WildPass.

🧭 Route description

The route leads from Talstation Bergbahnen Gargellen via Kalkofen, Gitziste, Vergalden Fenster, Gargellen Fenster, Rüti Fenster, Geologisches Fenster, Hotel Madrisa Fenster, Ronggalpe Fenster, Miorama, Röbimaisäß, Willkommen Fenster and Juliusruhe and back to the starting point.

Start early – summer afternoons often bring thunderstorms. Carry enough water; many huts are only open from late June to late September.

From the holiday house in St. Gallenkirch the starting point is easy to reach by Landbus (stop 400 m away) or car – see the travel notes.

Landbus 670 Schruns–St. Gallenkirch–Gargellen (hourly), stop Gargellen Schafberg cable car; approx. 20 min from St. Gallenkirch.
