The Kops reservoir lies at around 1,800 m at the Zeinisjoch, on the border between the Montafon and the Paznaun. The lake loop leads around the reservoir in about five kilometres – over meadows and moorland, past the Zeinisjochhaus alp and with constant views of the Ballunspitze and Verwall. International portals rate the loop as easy and family-friendly; it is a good choice when the Silvretta reservoir next door is crowded.

The Kops reservoir is reached via the Zeinisjoch road from Partenen (summer, narrow mountain road) or on foot or by Landbus from the Wiegensee; the Wiegensee trail comes across from the Tafamunt cable car. Refreshments at the Kopsseestüberl.

Start early – summer afternoons often bring thunderstorms. Carry enough water; many huts are only open from late June to late September.

From the holiday house in St. Gallenkirch the starting point is easy to reach by Landbus (stop 400 m away) or car – see the travel notes.
