Silver and ore were once mined on the Kristberg above Silbertal – the Silver Trail tells children the story in a playful way: just under three kilometres from the summit station of the Kristberg cable car with stations on tunnels, miners and ore, hands-on puzzles and the late-Gothic miners’ chapel of St. Agatha, the oldest church in the Montafon. Around 100 m of elevation, an hour of pure walking, pushchair-friendly for large parts.

The Kristberg is known as the “connoisseur’s mountain”: lots of sun, gentle paths, panorama of the Rätikon and Verwall and several inns. 25 minutes’ drive to Silbertal; the cable car is included with the Freizeit-WildPass.

The route leads via Waldschule and St. Agatha Bergknappenkapelle am Kristberg and back to the starting point.

Start early – summer afternoons often bring thunderstorms. Carry enough water; many huts are only open from late June to late September.

From the holiday house in St. Gallenkirch the starting point is easy to reach by Landbus (stop 400 m away) or car – see the travel notes.

Landbus 680 Schruns–Silbertal to the Kristberg cable car valley station; hiking bus into the upper Silbertal (summer). From St. Gallenkirch via Schruns approx. 35 min.
