The Rellstal is closed to cars – which makes it the quietest valley in the Montafon. From Vandans (Golm valley station) the path leads through forest and over the valley’s alps to the Heinrich-Hueter-Hütte (1,766 m), which stands directly beneath the Zimba, the “Montafon Matterhorn”. Around 9 km and 1,100 m of ascent from Vandans, about 4 hours; taking the hiking bus into the Rellstal saves the lower part.

The hut is the starting point for the Saulakopf via ferrata, the Zimba ascent and the crossing to the Lünersee via the Lünerkrinne. Foreign hiking portals praise the food and location – a good place for a first hut night with children.

Start early – summer afternoons often bring thunderstorms. Carry enough water; many huts are only open from late June to late September.

From the holiday house in St. Gallenkirch the starting point is easy to reach by Landbus (stop 400 m away) or car – see the travel notes.
