„Via Valtellina Montafon“ is a moderate long-distance stage in the Montafon.

The route measures 24.2 km, with 1728 m of ascent and 228 m of descent, pure walking time is around 8:40 hours. The highest point is at 2,203 m, the lowest at 675 m.

The starting point is reached by cable car – in summer the ride is included with the Freizeit-WildPass (summer multi-day pass), otherwise a lift ticket is needed; the free Montafon guest card only gives a discount.

The route leads via Im Dorf, Haus Nr. 7 im Schrunser Veltliner Weg, Unterschrofenkapelle, "Schnapfagass" und Wirtschaft zur Kreuzgasse, Pfarrkirche St. Gallenkirch, Rütikapelle, Dreistufenwirtschaft auf Gweil, Säumerstation Zuggawald und Zuggawald-Maisäß, Fideliskapelle, Fidelis- und Sarotlaquellen, Röbimaisäß, Kirche Gargellen, Der Schafberg in der Römerzeit and Das Schlappiner Joch in vorgeschichtlicher Zeit.

Start early – summer afternoons often bring thunderstorms. Carry enough water; many huts are only open from late June to late September.

From the holiday house in St. Gallenkirch the starting point is easy to reach by Landbus (stop 400 m away) or car – see the travel notes.

🚌 Getting there by public transport

Montafonerbahn to Schruns station (every 30 min from Bludenz), Hochjoch cable car a 5-minute walk; Landbus 650 from St. Gallenkirch approx. 15 min.

Parking at the Hochjoch cable car in Schruns is paid and limited; alternative free parking at the Zamang cable car.
