Small Kristberg Loop

The small Kristberg loop is the introduction to winter on the Kristberg: from the cable car's top station (around 1,440 m) you walk to the Säga meadows, turn off there and return via the Stelzer exit along snow-covered Maisäß huts to the Panoramagasthof Kristberg and the Knappastoba. 2.06 km, 111 m of ascent, about an hour, easy – on a groomed track with short forest sections, partly beside the panorama cross-country loop, between 1,354 and 1,463 m. The Kristberg is a sunny plateau without much skiing, with views south to the Rätikon and east into the Verwall; above the inn stands the miners' chapel of St Agatha, the oldest surviving church in the Montafon, endowed by miners around 1400.

From our house 29 minutes by car (car park at the Silbertal valley station) or bus 650 to Schruns and bus 680 to Silbertal Kristbergbahn, about 35 minutes in all. According to the operator the cable car is expected to run from 11 December 2026 to 29 March 2027 in winter 2026/27. We recommend the loop for families with small children and as a warm-up before lunch – the Panoramagasthof Kristberg (daily 8 am–6 pm in winter 2025/26), Knappastoba and Gasthof Kristberg are all at the top station; if you still have energy, add the big loop or a toboggan run.
