Klostertal cycle route (Route 4): Bludenz – Klösterle

The Klostertal route is Vorarlberg's state cycle route no. 4 (green round sign) and fully mapped in OpenStreetMap. It starts at Bludenz station (558 m), leads through the old town and then follows side roads, farm lanes and cycle paths up the Klostertal: Bings, Braz, Dalaas, Wald am Arlberg and Klösterle (1,070 m). Over 24 km it gathers a good 500 m of climbing – mostly imperceptibly, only between Dalaas and Wald does it steepen for a few kilometres. The route keeps its distance from the expressway and often stays close to the Alfenz river; the views rise to the Roggelskopf, Rätikon and Verwall.

For families and leisure cyclists the trick is the return by Arlberg railway: train from Klösterle-Danöfen or Langen back to Bludenz (bikes allowed), then the Montafonerbahn to Schruns. From the holiday house the tour combines with the Ill cycle path – Schruns – Bludenz – Klösterle is then about 50 km, almost all on dedicated cycle paths. Want more?
