The Schafberg Hüsli stands at 2,130 m at the top station of the Schafberg cable car in Gargellen and is run by the Gargellen lift company itself. The building is step-free, has a large sun terrace and looks out to the Madrisa, Gargellen's home mountain, and across to the Rätikon, Silvretta and Verwall ranges. It is known for its mountain breakfast with Sura Kees (the local sour-milk cheese), Brösl, herb quark and home-made jam; otherwise it serves Montafon cooking from Käsknöpfle to Kaiserschmarren. In summer there is a playground for children, and the mountain-cart track down to the valley starts just below the Hüsli.

From our house take bus 670 for about 20 minutes (stop Gargellen Schafbergbahn) or drive 10 km; the gondola takes about 6 minutes and is included in the Freizeit-WildPass in summer. From the Hüsli, the pushchair-friendly loop to the reservoir (just under 3 km, a good hour) is worthwhile; experienced hikers start the big Madrisa circuit here via Schafbergsee, Gafierjöchli and Rätschenjoch across to the Swiss side. Schafberg cable car summer 2026: 12 June – 11 October, Hüsli daily 8.30 am – 4.30 pm; in winter (27 November 2026 – 11 April 2027) a ski hut in the middle of the ski area.

Bus 670 (about 20 minutes from St. Gallenkirch) or car (10 km) to the Schafberg cable car in Gargellen, free parking; the gondola takes you in 6 minutes straight to the Hüsli at the top station.

💡 Tips & refreshments

Book the mountain breakfast in advance. Wheelchairs and pushchairs get right onto the terrace. Fondue evenings with a special cable car ride are offered in winter – ask the lift company for dates.

Landbus 670 Schruns–St. Gallenkirch–Gargellen (hourly), stop Gargellen Schafberg cable car; approx. 20 min from St. Gallenkirch.
