Silvretta Classic Rally Montafon

Since 1998 the Silvretta Classic Rallye Montafon has turned the valley into a rolling car museum for three days every summer. The organiser is Motor Presse Stuttgart (“auto motor und sport”, “Motor Klassik”) together with Montafon Tourismus; classic and modern-classic cars up to model year 2006 are eligible, and it is not about speed but regularity tests timed to the hundredth of a second. In 2026 the 28th edition ran from 9 to 11 July with around 150 to 180 teams – from pre-war cars such as a 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C to modern classics, with rally legend Walter Röhrl among the starters. Because the Silvretta High Alpine Road is closed, the route led for the first time through the Rhine valley, the canton of St. Gallen and Liechtenstein with a drive through Vaduz; around 600 to 670 km in total over the Furkajoch, Faschinajoch, Flexenpass and Hahntennjoch.

The heart of the event is Partenen at the end of the valley, 8 km from our house: the Vallülasaal hosts accreditation and the start and finish of the first stage, and the cars are lined up there for everyone to see. In 2026 the Wednesday even began at the Valisera cable car in St. Gallenkirch with technical inspection and a rally training course – 2 km from the house. The second stage finished at the Classic-Därflifäscht village festival in Gaschurn, the third in front of the Posthotel Taube in Schruns with the prize-giving. Watching is free everywhere; the best spots are start and finish, the village drive-throughs and the pass roads. The 2027 date had not been published as of September 2026; the rally is traditionally held in early to mid-July.
