If you want to experience the Bielerhöhe in all its scale, take this loop: from the Silvretta reservoir up over the Radschulter and the Radsattel (approx. 2,650 m) beneath the Hohes Rad (2,934 m) and down to the Wiesbadener Hütte, then back through the Ochsental to the lake. About 15 km, a good 700 m of ascent, 5 to 6 hours. The path over the saddle is a red, partly black mountain trail with boulder terrain and, in early summer, old snowfields; travel reports from several countries praise it as one of the most scenic day hikes in the Silvretta – Piz Buin, Silvrettahorn and the glaciers lie before you like an amphitheatre.

The summit of the Hohes Rad itself is a bonus for experienced hikers: black-marked, exposed, with short climbing sections and loose rock; a helmet is advisable. For the loop without the summit, sure footing and fitness are enough.

Start early (first Vermunt cable car ascent), check the forecast, carry 2 litres of water. Plan a stop at the Wiesbadener Hütte.

🚌 Getting there by public transport

Landbus 650 to Partenen, then Vermunt cable car + tunnel bus to the Bielerhöhe (summer 2026: 20 June–4 Oct, uphill 8–12 and 13–16:30, last descent 17:00). Approx. 1 h in total from St. Gallenkirch.

🅿️ Parking

Note: the Silvretta High Alpine Road is closed on the Vorarlberg side after rockfalls, expected until 2030 – car access only from Tyrol (Galtür). The Vermunt cable car car park in Partenen is closed in 2026 for construction; use alternative parking in Partenen village.
