The lake loop at the Bielerhöhe (2,037 m) is the most popular hike in the Silvretta – rated top marks on international hiking portals and chosen by families and leisurely walkers alike. You start at the dam, pass the waterfalls of the Bieltal stream, reach the southern shore with the great glacier view of Piz Buin, Silvrettahorn and the Ochsental glacier and return along the western shore to the start. Around 6.4 km, barely 60 m of elevation, 1½ to 2 hours; wide paths, benches, flower meadows and marmots.

At the start you have the Madlenerhaus, the Piz Buin mountain inn and the boat trip on the reservoir. Since the Silvretta High Alpine Road is closed on the Vorarlberg side until around 2030, you travel from Partenen by the Vermunt cable car and tunnel bus to the Bielerhöhe – an extra experience for many guests.

The route leads via Staumauer, Silvrettadorf, Piz Buin Blick, Veltliner Hüsle and Bielerdamm and back to the starting point.

💡 Tips & refreshments

Feasible with an all-terrain pushchair. Sun protection and a jacket – the weather changes quickly at 2,000 m. Last descent of the Vermunt cable car at 5 pm.

🚌 Getting there by public transport

Landbus 650 to Partenen, then Vermunt cable car + tunnel bus to the Bielerhöhe (summer 2026: 20 June–4 Oct, uphill 8–12 and 13–16:30, last descent 17:00). Approx. 1 h in total from St. Gallenkirch.

🅿️ Parking

Note: the Silvretta High Alpine Road is closed on the Vorarlberg side after rockfalls, expected until 2030 – car access only from Tyrol (Galtür). The Vermunt cable car car park in Partenen is closed in 2026 for construction; use alternative parking in Partenen village.
