The Madrisella is the home summit between St. Gallenkirch and Gaschurn – and with the Versettla cable car behind you, an achievable peak for experienced walkers. The summit trail leads from the top station over alpine meadows and boulder terrain in around 11 km and a good 800 m of ascent (loop) to the summit cross at 2,466 m; the last metres are steep and stony, sure footing is required. At the top the whole Montafon panorama opens up: Rätikon, Silvretta with Piz Buin, Verwall.

International tour portals list the Madrisella as a “moderate mountain hike” of about 5 hours; one variant descends along the summit trail to Garfrescha and thus ends 600 m from our house.

The route leads from Bergstation Versettla Bahn via Versettlaspitze (2.372 m), Madrisellaspitze (2.466 m), Seressee im Novatal, Gaschurn and Bergrestaurant Nova Stoba and back to the starting point.

Start early – summer afternoons often bring thunderstorms. Carry enough water; many huts are only open from late June to late September.

From the holiday house in St. Gallenkirch the starting point is easy to reach by Landbus (stop 400 m away) or car – see the travel notes.

Landbus 650, stop Gaschurn Versettla cable car (approx. 10 min from St. Gallenkirch); ski bus in winter.
