Montafoner Hut circuit

The Montafon hut circuit encircles the whole valley on high-level paths and links three mountain ranges: the green Verwall (Wormser and Neue Heilbronner Hütte), the glaciated Silvretta (Wiesbadener, Saarbrücker, Tübinger Hütte) and the limestone Rätikon (Tilisuna, Lindauer, Totalp, Douglass, Heinrich-Hueter-Hütte). Twelve stages of 3 to 8 hours, just under 130 km, around 9,000 m of ascent – as a whole a two-week trek, but one that can also be walked in sections because almost every hut is reachable by cable car or bus.

American and British hiking bloggers who walked five stages from the Bielerhöhe to Schruns rave about “3,000 m peaks, crystal-clear water and huts with excellent food” and name July to September as the best time; in early summer old snowfields remain on the passes. All huts must be booked individually. From our house you can join the circuit in Gargellen, St. Gallenkirch (Valisera/Grasjoch) or Schruns.
