The Montafon Rätikon circuit leads around the limestone giants of the Rätikon and crosses the border several times: from Latschau to the Lindauer Hütte, over the Öfapass to the Carschina hut on the Swiss side, on to the Tilisunahütte and back to Tschagguns. Around 45 km and 2,300 m of ascent in 3 to 4 stages – moderate to difficult, with steep pass crossings but no climbing sections.

International portals describe the Rätikon as a “limestone cathedral”: north faces above green alps on the Austrian side, karst plateaus and lakes on the Swiss side. Book huts in advance; don’t forget your ID.

The route leads via Latschätzkopf (2.219 m), Golmer Kreuzjoch (2.261 m), Schweizer Tor, Lünersee, Gafalljoch (2.239 m), Tilisunasee and Tobelsee.

Start early – summer afternoons often bring thunderstorms. Carry enough water; many huts are only open from late June to late September.

From the holiday house in St. Gallenkirch the starting point is easy to reach by Landbus (stop 400 m away) or car – see the travel notes.

🚌 Getting there by public transport

Montafonerbahn to Vandans or Tschagguns, Landbus to the Golm cable car in Vandans/Latschau (Golm valley station). From St. Gallenkirch: bus 650 with change in Schruns.

Free parking at the Golm cable car in Vandans and in Latschau (mid station/Gauertal car park, partly paid in summer).
