Silvretta-Bielerhöhe via the Saarbrücker Hut to the Vermuntsee

The Saarbrücker Hütte stands at 2,538 m below the Groß- and Kleinlitzner and is regarded by hiking bloggers from several countries as the hut with the best food in the Silvretta. The route from the Bielerhöhe first follows the Silvretta reservoir, then climbs through the Klostertal (the Silvretta Klostertal, not the valley near Bludenz) to the hut and afterwards descends the track to the Vermunt reservoir, where the tunnel bus to the Vermunt cable car stops. Around 11 km, 600 m of ascent, about 4 hours.

Alpine but without climbing sections; in early summer snowfields often remain above the hut. With an overnight stay you can add the Kleinlitzner via ferrata.

The route leads from Silvretta-Bielerhöhe via Viehpferch, Tschifernella, Zollwachhütte 2 and Vermuntsee to Vermuntsee.

Start early – summer afternoons often bring thunderstorms. Carry enough water; many huts are only open from late June to late September.

From the holiday house in St. Gallenkirch the starting point is easy to reach by Landbus (stop 400 m away) or car – see the travel notes.

🚌 Getting there by public transport

Landbus 650 to Partenen, then Vermunt cable car + tunnel bus to the Bielerhöhe (summer 2026: 20 June–4 Oct, uphill 8–12 and 13–16:30, last descent 17:00). Approx. 1 h in total from St. Gallenkirch.

🅿️ Parking

Note: the Silvretta High Alpine Road is closed on the Vorarlberg side after rockfalls, expected until 2030 – car access only from Tyrol (Galtür). The Vermunt cable car car park in Partenen is closed in 2026 for construction; use alternative parking in Partenen village.
