Tschengla loop to the stone circles

On the Tschengla high plateau (around 1,250 m) above Bürserberg lie stone settings that researchers interpret as part of a large calendar complex from between 5000 and 1900 BC; others see a cult site of the Raetian nature goddess. The astronomically aligned stone circles are about 20 minutes from the hikers’ car park; the state of Vorarlberg’s short loop links them with viewpoints over the Zimba, Schesaplana and the Brandnertal.

The loop is barely two kilometres long and almost level – perfect with children, who clamber between the stones and develop their own theories. English-language travel guides call the Tschengla one of the most atmospheric spots in the Brandnertal, especially in the early morning or at sunset.
