Vermuntsee – Tübinger Hut

Steeply up from the Vermunt reservoir to the Tübinger Hütte (2,191 m) in the Garnera valley – Silvretta solitude with glacier views.

The Tübinger Hütte sits at the head of the Garnera valley, surrounded by the peaks of the Silvretta. The approach from the Vermunt reservoir leads over the Plattenjoch – a good 800 m of ascent over just under 7 km, steep and alpine, about 4 hours. At the top you find a small staffed DAV hut, marmots and views of glacier remnants and the border ridge with Switzerland.

The stage is part of the Montafon hut circuit; if you do not want to return to the Vermunt reservoir, descend the next day through the Garnera valley to Gaschurn. Hiking reports from abroad emphasise the tranquillity of this corner compared with the Bielerhöhe.

Start early – summer afternoons often bring thunderstorms. Carry enough water; many huts are only open from late June to late September.

From the holiday house in St. Gallenkirch the starting point is easy to reach by Landbus (stop 400 m away) or car – see the travel notes.

🚌 Getting there by public transport

Landbus 650 to Partenen, then Vermunt cable car + tunnel bus to the Bielerhöhe (summer 2026: 20 June–4 Oct, uphill 8–12 and 13–16:30, last descent 17:00). Approx. 1 h in total from St. Gallenkirch.

🅿️ Parking

Note: the Silvretta High Alpine Road is closed on the Vorarlberg side after rockfalls, expected until 2030 – car access only from Tyrol (Galtür). The Vermunt cable car car park in Partenen is closed in 2026 for construction; use alternative parking in Partenen village.
