„Via Alpina Montafon“ is a moderate long-distance stage in the Montafon.

The route measures 52.8 km, with 3420 m of ascent and 3414 m of descent, pure walking time is around 19:56 hours. The highest point is at 2,511 m, the lowest at 1,408 m.

The starting point is reached by cable car – in summer the ride is included with the Freizeit-WildPass (summer multi-day pass), otherwise a lift ticket is needed; the free Montafon guest card only gives a discount.

The route leads via Gafalljoch (2.239 m), Viehpferch, Hochmadererjoch and Vergaldner Wäldle.

Start early – summer afternoons often bring thunderstorms. Carry enough water; many huts are only open from late June to late September.

From the holiday house in St. Gallenkirch the starting point is easy to reach by Landbus (stop 400 m away) or car – see the travel notes.

🚌 Getting there by public transport

Rellstal hiking bus from Vandans (summer, cash only); Lünersee cable car: Landbus 580 from Bludenz to Brand/Lünerseebahn.

Rellstal closed to cars (hiking bus/on foot). Lünersee cable car: paid car park at the valley station, full early on fine days.
