Bartholomäberg to the Rellseck (back via Linda)

Bartholomäberg (1,087 m) sits high above Schruns as the “sun balcony of the Montafon”, and the Rellseck is its viewpoint: a knoll at around 1,500 m with a chapel and open views of the Rätikon with the Zimba and Vandanser Steinwand, into the Gauertal with the Drei Türme and out to the Walgau. This loop starts at the baroque church – first mentioned in 1350 and known for its baroque organ – and climbs via Chrestlis Egg, Worms and Goritschang through woods and over snowy Maisäß meadows to the Rellseck; the return is via Linda on the miners' trail (Bergknappenweg). 8.32 km, 416 m of ascent and descent, just under 3 hours, moderate. According to the provincial trail data the paths are mostly cleared, rolled on the higher sections.

From our house it is 20 minutes by car (car park opposite the church); by bus take line 650 to Schruns and then line 640 to Bartholomäberg Kirche. The Alpengasthaus Rellseck at the top belongs to the Hotel Bergerhof – ask there beforehand whether it is open in winter; otherwise the inns in Bartholomäberg serve refreshments. The loop is at its best in sunshine, because the whole slope faces south.
