Along the Suggadin Stream to Borstboden (Gargellen)

Gargellen (1,423 m) is the highest village in the Montafon, in a side valley above St. Gallenkirch below the dark summit of the Madrisa on the Swiss border – English guidebooks like to call it the “smugglers' village”. This short winter trail starts at the base station of the Gargellen cable cars, leads through the village centre past the church and then down the valley along the snow-covered Suggadin stream to the Borstboden (Porschtboden) meadows; you return the same way. 3.11 km, 87 m of ascent, about an hour – easy, on a groomed track, mostly flat beside the stream. According to the provincial trail data practically all winter trails in Gargellen are groomed.

From our house it is 12 minutes by car (free parking at the Schafberg cable car) or about 20 minutes on Landbus 670 to the Gargellen Schafbergbahn stop. Refreshments in the hotels and inns in the village. The operator publishes the Schafberg cable car's operating dates for winter 2026/27; if you ride up, you can combine the stroll with a visit to the Schafberg plateau.
