Illweg Loop Tschagguns

The Illweg loop is the flattest winter walk in this guide: from the centre of Tschagguns (685 m) you follow the August-Jochum-Weg and the Illweg downstream along the Ill, past the Aktivpark Montafon with its white tent and the golf course, and cross back to the other side of the river on the Bödmensteig bridge. 5.95 km, 39 m of ascent, about 1½ hours, easy – on wide, cleared paths (according to the provincial trail data the winter paths around Tschagguns are cleared throughout), with views up to the Golm, the Zimba and the Vandanser Steinwand in the Rätikon and across to the Hochjoch. Because there is hardly any snow on the path, the loop is no problem with a pushchair and a good choice when there is storm or fog higher up.

From our house 12 minutes by car (parking in the centre of Tschagguns and at the Alpenbad Montafon) or by Landbus 650/651 to Tschagguns Zelfen or the Montafonerbahn to Tschagguns. Refreshments in the village inns; Schruns with its cafés is just across the Ill bridge. If you still want exercise after the loop, go to the Alpenbad Montafon or ride up the Hochjoch cable car (winter 2026/27: 19 December 2026 to 4 April 2027).
