Silbertal to Kristberg
565 m of climbing on foot up the Kristberg: from the Kristbergbahn valley station via Koppa and Außerkristberg to the Panoramagasthof – and back down by cable car.
If you would rather walk up the Kristberg than ride, this is your route: 5.7 km and 565 m of ascent from the Kristbergbahn valley station in Silbertal (889 m) via the hamlets of Koppa and Außerkristberg and the Totelbühel up to the Panoramagasthof Kristberg at 1,441 m, about two and a half hours. The Kristberg is a small, family-run winter sports area with a reversible cable car (built 1988, 35 people per cabin), two drag lifts, a panoramic cross-country trail and around 40 km of groomed or cleared winter walking trails between Kristberg, Silbertal and Bartholomäberg. At the top, the Panoramagasthof and the Knappastoba serve food and drink; a few minutes further on is the St Agatha chapel of 1507, considered the oldest church in the Montafon and a memorial to the miners.
The state of Vorarlberg classifies the route as an easy winter trail; only about a third of it is recorded as groomed, the rest follows the access lanes of the hamlets. For the descent take the Kristbergbahn (winter 2026/27 according to the operator 11 December 2026 to 29 March 2027, daily from 7.45 am). From our house: bus 650 to Schruns, then bus 680 to Silbertal, around 35 minutes in total; by car 21 minutes, free parking at the valley station.

A steady climb, partly on shady access lanes – bring spikes and poles. Buy your descent ticket at the top station; operating hours and prices on kristberg.at. After fresh snow the trails on the mountain are groomed first, so the ascent may still be snowed in.
