Von Latschau durchs Gauertal to the Lindauer Hut

Snowshoe tour through the snow-covered Gauertal to the Lindauer Hütte (1,744 m) – 14 km and a good 700 m of ascent below the north faces of the Drei Türme.

In winter the valley path through the Gauertal becomes a long but technically easy snowshoe tour: from Latschau (Golm valley station) you follow the mostly groomed winter trail and forest roads up the valley, past the deeply snow-covered Spora alps, until the backdrop of Drei Türme, Drusenfluh and Sulzfluh opens up at the head of the valley. Around 14 km and a good 700 m of ascent there and back, about 5 hours – fitness is required, but there are no tricky sections on the valley path.

The Lindauer Hütte is only open intermittently in winter (ski-touring season, usually around Christmas and in late winter) – ask the hut warden beforehand; otherwise bring your own provisions. The lower part also works as a shorter half-day as far as the Untere Sporaalpe. From St. Gallenkirch it is 15 minutes by car to Latschau, or take the Montafonerbahn/Landbus to Tschagguns and on to Latschau.

💡 Tips & refreshments

Check the avalanche bulletin (lawine-vorarlberg.at) – avoid the head of the valley below the north faces when the danger level is elevated. Snowshoes and poles can be hired from sports shops in Schruns and Tschagguns. Start early, winter days are short.

🚌 Getting there by public transport

Montafonerbahn to Vandans or Tschagguns, Landbus to the Golm cable car in Vandans/Latschau (Golm valley station). From St. Gallenkirch: bus 650 with change in Schruns.
