From Latschau via Gafadura to Grabs

The big loop above Latschau: 11 km and 390 m of ascent via Gafadura to the Berggasthof Grabs (1,400 m) and back over the Ziegerberg – with a toboggan run as an alternative.

At just under 11 km this is the longest winter walk in the Tschagguns area: from the car park by the fire station in Latschau (1,012 m) up the Gafazutweg and via Gafadura to the Berggasthof Grabs at 1,400 m, then back via the Grabsweg and Ziegerbergstraße to the Gafazutweg and Latschau. 390 m of ascent, about two and a half hours of pure walking time, classified by the state of Vorarlberg as a moderate winter trail. You walk along the slope above the valley with open views across to the Hochjoch and Bartholomäberg, while the Vandanser Steinwand and the Zimba tower above you.

According to state data, about half of the loop is groomed and the rest cleared, with a short section recorded as a snowshoe route. The Berggasthof Grabs is the turning point and refreshment stop; according to the operator it will be run under new management in winter 2026/27, so please check opening hours beforehand. From there the natural toboggan run also drops around 360 m to the valley – if you like, hire a sledge at the inn and skip the walk back. From our house: 19 minutes by car to Latschau, or bus 650 to Schruns and the Landbus to Latschau.

💡 Tips & refreshments

Start early because of the length and keep an eye on the weather; poles and spikes for the forest sections. The toboggan run is only open with sufficient snow; helmets for children. Dogs on a lead.

🚌 Getting there by public transport

Montafonerbahn to Vandans or Tschagguns, Landbus to the Golm cable car in Vandans/Latschau (Golm valley station). From St. Gallenkirch: bus 650 with change in Schruns.

Free parking at the Golm cable car in Vandans and in Latschau (mid station/Gauertal car park, partly paid in summer).
