Bregenz lakeside promenade, lido & Pipeline cycle path

A summer day on Lake Constance: harbour pier and lighthouse, lido with 400 m of shore, the wooden Mili bathhouse of 1825 and the 1.7 km 'Pipeline' path to Lochau.

summer · 5-9 👨‍👩‍👧 Family friendly 🍼 Stroller friendly 🐕 Dogs allowed

Bregenz has redesigned its lakefront over the past 15 years: the harbour with its pier, completed in 1890, gained a new lighthouse lookout and broad steps for watching the sunset in 2009/10. Eastwards follow the Festspielhaus and the lake stage, then the lido – a 50 m sports pool, adventure and children's pools, three slides and 400 m of natural shoreline – and the Mili, a U-shaped wooden bathhouse on 123 piles, built in 1825 as a military swimming school and now a listed monument. Beyond it begins the 'Pipeline': 1.7 km of free pebble beach with separate foot and cycle paths to Lochau, named after the oil pipeline laid here in 1966 and operated until 1997; the last section was completed in 2023. In summer the lake reaches up to 26 °C.

We recommend leaving the car behind: by train from Bludenz you reach Bregenz station, right on the shore, in about an hour (by car 75 km / 1 hour, car parks at the Festspielhaus and in the centre). Then it is on foot or by bike along the water – the Lake Constance cycle path (260 km around the lake) passes here, with 9 km to Lindau and 4 km to Hard. The day combines well with the Pfänder cable car (valley station a seven-minute walk from the harbour), the Kunsthaus Bregenz and a boat trip; in the evening the promenade belongs to the locals.
