Gauertal: Lindauer Hütte & Drei Türme
From Latschau to the Lindauer Hütte (1,744 m) beneath the Drei Türme: 12 km, 550 m of ascent, alpine garden with over 500 plant species – 15 minutes from the house.
The Gauertal is the Montafon's picture-book valley head: from the Latschau reservoir above Tschagguns it rises gently south-west until the limestone walls of the Drei Türme (2,830 m), Drusenfluh and Sulzfluh (2,818 m) tower up at its end. Below them, the Lindauer Hütte of the German Alpine Club's Lindau section has stood at 1,744 m since 1899 – with an alpine garden laid out in 1907, where over 500 alpine plant species flower from June to the end of August (free entry, donation requested). The hut path is a wide track: 12 km there and back, 550 m of ascent, about 4 hours, passing the Alpe Latschätz; families with children manage well, and a stop at the alp or the hut is part of it.
For variety, take the Golmerbahn cable car (23 May–18 Oct 2026) up the Golm and walk the Latschätzer Höhenweg to the hut, about 2 hours. In summer 2026 the hut is open from 30 May to 10 October (kitchen 9 am–7 pm), in winter from 25 December 2026 to 27 March 2027 – when the hut track becomes a 6.6 km natural toboggan run with sledge hire. From our house it is 10.4 km / 15 minutes to Latschau; by bus 650 or the Montafonerbahn to Tschagguns and local bus 601 to Latschau.
