Rellstal & Alpengasthof Rellstal (car-free)

The Rellstal branches off westwards into the Rätikon at Vandans – a quiet high valley with alpine pastures, gypsum sinkholes and the Rells stream, closed to private cars. About 7 km up the valley, at almost 1,500 m, stands the Alpengasthof Rellstal at the foot of the Zimba (2,643 m), nicknamed the 'Montafon Matterhorn' for its shape. To get up there take the hiking bus run by the municipality of Vandans: in summer 2026 it runs daily from 27 June to 13 September (weekends only in early June and late September), roughly every two hours from the Golmerbahn via the municipal office and Vandans railway station, journey time around 40 minutes.

From the inn easy alpine tracks lead to the Alpe Lün, which sells cheese in summer; in 45 minutes you reach the Alpine Club's Heinrich-Hueter-Hütte (1,766 m, built 1908/09, open 6 June to 3 October 2026), an explicitly family-friendly hut with a view of the Zimba. Experienced hikers carry on over the Lünerkrinne to the Lünersee (about 2 hours) and take the Lünersee cable car down into the Brandnertal. From our house take bus 650 to Schruns and the Montafonerbahn to Vandans, where the hiking bus stops; by car, park at the Golmerbahn in Vandans.
