Wirtschaft Bitschweil
Day-trip inn on the Bitschweil sun terrace above Tschagguns (approx. 1,000 m): home-made Kässpätzle, pork knuckle, big terrace – via the Aquaweg or 914 steps.
The Wirtschaft Bitschweil lies on the Bitschweil plateau, the sun terrace of Tschagguns at around 1,000 m, just below the Bitschweil reservoir. Host Dieter Wieser runs a classic day-trip inn with a dining room and large terrace which, not without reason, he counts among the sunniest spots in the Montafon. Hot, down-to-earth food is served all day: Montafon Keesknöpfli and completely home-made Kässpätzle by prior order (from four people), veal knuckle grandmother's style, grilled pork knuckle with sauerkraut, plus rösti and schnitzel. Groups of up to 35 can be seated; please book from ten people.
Bitschweil has a road from Tschagguns with plenty of parking, but the walk is nicer: from the Latschau power station (bus from the Tschagguns municipal office) the level Aquaweg leads across in about a kilometre – suitable for families and seniors – while the Aquastiege with its 914 steps and 400 m of ascent from the Gampadels power station in Tschagguns-Zelfen is the sporty option. From our house it is about 15 minutes to Tschagguns (bus 650/651). If you are descending from the Tilisunahütte or doing a loop over the Horamaisäß, this is the last stop before the valley. Season 2026 from 8 May, Thursday to Monday from 10 am into the evening, closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
