If you want to buy Montafon produce without climbing up to an alp, go to the market. The Schruns summer market – “Buramarkt” or farmers' market in dialect – takes place from June to September every Thursday from 9:00 to 17:00 on the Kirchplatz in Schruns (2026: 11 June to 24 September, except 30 July), run by the Schruns-Tschagguns town marketing and held whatever the weather. There is Sura Kees and alpine cheese from the dairy alps, bacon, bread, honey, schnapps, vegetables and crafts. In winter a smaller Thursday market runs on the Kirchplatz. Gaschurn also has a weekly market in summer, where the Alpe Garnera sells its cheese. The culinary highlight of the year is the Montafoner Buratag in Schruns (2026: Saturday 3 October), when the best Sura Kees is awarded.

In Bludenz, 30 minutes by bus 650 and the Montafonerbahn railway, the town and country market with fruit, vegetables, meat and fish is held on Saturdays from 8:00 to 12:00, plus the “s'Märktle” craft market in the old town; on Mondays from 8:00 to 17:00 there is the general market. Add to that themed markets through the year, the Bludenz spring market (2026: 9/10 May) and the winter market (2026: 19/20 December). From our house it is 11 km to Schruns; the Montafonerbahn runs every half hour from Schruns to Bludenz.

💡 Tips & refreshments

Bring cash, not all stalls take cards. Vacuum-packed cheese and bacon travel well – ask for Sura Kees at different stages of ripeness. Park in Schruns at the railway station or the Hochjoch cable car (charged); bus 650 gets you there in 15 minutes.
