Silvretta-Bielerhöhe by Vermunt cable car & tunnel bus
Up to 2,030 m despite the closed alpine road: Vermunt cable car from Partenen and tunnel bus to the Silvrettasee – lake loop, dam via ferrata, Wiesbadener Hütte.

The Bielerhöhe (2,037 m) is the pass between the Montafon and the Tyrolean Paznaun valley, and right below it lies the Silvrettasee at 2,030 m – the highest reservoir of illwerke vkw, built from 1938, first filled completely in 1951, with an 80 m high, 432 m long main dam. All around stand the 3,000 m peaks of the Silvretta, above all Piz Buin (3,312 m). The level loop around the lake takes about 2 hours and is manageable with a pushchair on the wide track; if you want more, walk through the Ochsental in 2 to 2½ hours to the Wiesbadener Hütte (2,443 m) with its glacier views, or take on the 320 m dam via ferrata (A/B) with rope bridge and pendulum swing.
The Silvretta high alpine road on the Vorarlberg side is expected to stay closed until 2030 after rockfalls. From our house you therefore take bus 650 or drive 10 minutes to Partenen (terminus, 5 minutes’ walk to the cable car), ride the Vermunt cable car up almost 700 m and continue by tunnel bus through the gallery to the lake. In 2026 cable car and bus run from 20 June to 4 October, ascents 8–12 and 13–16.30, last return from the Bielerhöhe at 17.00; a return ticket including the bus costs €35.20 (children €20). Food and drink at the Silvrettahaus, the Berggasthof Piz Buin or the Madlenerhaus below the dam.
