The crag of the Lindauer Hütte is actually called Blena Maisäß and lies in the Gauertal about 30 minutes below the hut. The DAV Lindau section describes it as a pleasure crag: 60 routes in 9 sectors, 107 pitches in total, consistently bolted, difficulties up to 6c+ (French), with plenty of good rock in the Rätikon limestone. It is developed and maintained by the Vorarlberg climber Marco Wasina. A 70 m rope is recommended and compulsory in sector C, as is a helmet; the best time is June to October, in winter there is nothing going on here. Blena is not a pure beginners’ crag, but the easier sectors work well for children.

The base is the Lindauer Hütte (1,744 m, DAV Lindau) at the foot of the Drei Türme, open roughly from early June to mid-October, with 103 beds and 60 dormitory places and the alpine garden founded in 1907. The approach from Latschau takes about 2½ hours and 730 m of ascent on forest tracks through the Gauertal; in summer the hiking bus into the Gauertal shortens the walk. From our house you drive about 30 minutes to Latschau (parking partly charged in summer) or take bus 650 to Schruns and on to the Golmerbahn. 🧭 Route description

From Latschau (Golmerbahn mid-station, car park) on foot through the Gauertal towards the Lindauer Hütte, about 2 hours to the crag; a hiking bus into the Gauertal only runs if it is in the summer timetable (check vmobil.at). About 30 minutes’ drive from the holiday house to Latschau.

💡 Tips & refreshments

Topo from the DAV Lindau section or in the Vorarlberg climbing guide; your own gear (60 metres is not enough everywhere) and belaying experience required. After thunderstorms the limestone dries quickly, but the approach stays slippery. Combine with the Gauablickhöhle via ferrata if you are experienced.

🚌 Getting there by public transport

Montafonerbahn to Vandans or Tschagguns, Landbus to the Golm cable car in Vandans/Latschau (Golm valley station). From St. Gallenkirch: bus 650 with change in Schruns.
