Tschagguns-Latschau crag

The Latschau crag lies on the shore of the Latschau reservoir above Tschagguns at about 985 m and is the most straightforward rock in the Montafon: around 30 routes (thecrag counts 31) in limestone and calcareous schist, 5 to 15 m high, grades from UIAA 3 to 6, facing south and south-east and therefore usable from spring well into autumn. The base is flat, with a fire pit and seating, and the wardens of the Wiesbadener Hütte describe the routes as “extremely easy” – ideal for children, beginners and courses. Above the crag runs the Latschau practice via ferrata (mostly A/B to B, a few B/C sections) with two rope bridges, about 30 minutes of climbing; if you climb below, bear in mind rockfall from above and keep your helmet on.

From the free car park at the Golmerbahn mid-station in Latschau you walk about 15 minutes on the level along the dam – according to the tourist board the path is even possible with a pushchair. For non-climbers in the family the rope park, Flying Fox and Alpine Coaster are within shouting distance. From our house it is about 20 minutes by car; with bus 650 to Schruns and the Landbus to Latschau you can also go by public transport.
