Wormser Hütte crag

The Wormser Hütte (2,307 m) of the DAV Worms section perches on the Kreuzjoch high above Schruns, and the crag is only five minutes away at about 2,300 m. Four section members started developing it in 2010, and in 2014 two more added further routes; today the grades range from easy up to UIAA 6 and 7. Anchors are chains or twin bolts, and the routes also carry a seriousness rating (E1 to E3), because the more serious lines may require trad protection. The section recommends a 70 m rope, ten quickdraws and, explicitly, a helmet – despite cleaning, loose rock must be expected. There is no hire gear at the hut, but a topo is available as a PDF on the section’s website.

No other crag at this altitude is so easy to reach: from our house by bus 650 or car to Schruns, Hochjoch cable car and Sennigrat cable car (2026: 20 June to 4 October), then a quarter of an hour to the hut; from the Kapell mid-station it is 1 to 1½ hours on foot. The hut is staffed roughly from mid-June to mid-October, has 64 sleeping places and takes bookings online. Non-climbers can meanwhile walk the panorama trail towards the Zamangspitze or sit on the terrace with a view of the Rätikon.
