via ferrata Rongg

Short but exposed: the Rongg waterfall via ferrata demands courage and sure footing – the ideal step up after the Röbisch gorge.

Right next to the Röbisch gorge the Rongg waterfall plunges into the depths, and the via ferrata of the same name climbs the rock wall beside it. It is not long, but clearly more demanding than its neighbour: steep sections, exposed traverses and an airy rope bridge in the spray of the water require a head for heights and some strength. International tour portals grade it B/C with short harder moves and advise doing it only on dry rock.

Combining both routes – first the Röbisch gorge to warm up, then the Rongg – is the most popular half-day loop in Gargellen; the way back leads via the Rongg alp with its restaurant to the village.

💡 Tips & refreshments

Dry rock only; in early summer the waterfall can produce a lot of spray. Sets can be hired at the Gargellen valley station.

🚌 Getting there by public transport

Landbus 670 Schruns–St. Gallenkirch–Gargellen (hourly), stop Gargellen Schafberg cable car; approx. 20 min from St. Gallenkirch.

Free parking at the Schafberg cable car in Gargellen and at the end of the village (Vergalden).
