This variant combines the ride up by (e-)mountain bike from the Alpe Nova with the via ferrata to the Madrisella (2,466 m). On gravel roads and alpine tracks you roll to near the start, switch to set and helmet there and climb over slabs and edges to the summit. English-language portals cite the tour as an example of the Montafon’s “bike & hike” culture and recommend it for skilled bikers with via ferrata experience.

Allow around 8½ km, 700 m of ascent and 4 to 5 hours; the bikes stay at the foot of the wall and the return follows the same route to the Alpe Nova and on down to St. Gallenkirch. E-bikes can be hired in St. Gallenkirch and Gaschurn.

The route leads from Alpe Nova via Madrisellaspitze (2.466 m) and Seressee im Novatal, Gaschurn and back to the starting point.

Start early – summer afternoons often bring thunderstorms. Carry enough water; many huts are only open from late June to late September.

From the holiday house in St. Gallenkirch the starting point is easy to reach by Landbus (stop 400 m away) or car – see the travel notes.

Landbus 650, stop Gaschurn Versettla cable car (approx. 10 min from St. Gallenkirch); ski bus in winter.
