Chapel Jetzmunt

Jetzmunt is one of the hamlets on the southern slope of the Bartholomäberg, scattered farms at around 840 m between St. Anton im Montafon and the church village. The chapel of the Virgin here is not a Baroque chapel but a child of the post-war years: built in 1961/62 to plans by the architects Keckeis and Thurnherr and consecrated in 1967, a plain rectangular building with a gabled roof and a small tower. Despite its youth it is a listed monument – an example of how the Montafon hamlets were still building their own places of devotion in the 20th century. Little has been published about its furnishings and history; the chapel is looked after by the parish of Bartholomäberg, and services are held occasionally.

For us Jetzmunt is less a destination than a pleasant stopover: the road from St. Anton up to Bartholomäberg passes by here, and on clear days the view over the outer Montafon towards Bludenz is far-reaching. From our house it is 17.3 km or a 22-minute drive; bus 641 stops in Oberjetzmunt. We suggest combining the stop with the Baroque church and the Frühmesshaus museum in Bartholomäberg or the parish church of St. Anton – that makes a small cultural half-day on the sunny slope.
