Innerberg church

Innerberg is the last hamlet of the municipality of Bartholomäberg, high on the sunny slope where the road ends and the hiking trails begin. Its church of the Immaculate Conception became a daughter church of the Bartholomäberg parish in 1791, was rebuilt in 1792 and consecrated in 1820. The late-Baroque building – nave and choir under one gabled roof, a north tower with a pyramid roof – stands free in the meadow with its walled churchyard, and with the Drei Türme of the Rätikon behind it, it is one of the most photographed motifs in the valley. Inside, the nave fresco shows the Assumption of the Virgin (Johann Anton Klein, 1792) and the choir fresco of 1910 the Last Supper; the four-columned high altar dates from the year of construction, while the figures and Stations of the Cross by Andreas Kölle, from about 1740, are older than the church itself. The stained glass followed in 1901 and 1929, and the organ was built by the Mayer brothers of Feldkirch in 1943.

From our house it is 18.4 km or 23 minutes; buses 640 and 641 terminate at the Gasthaus Mühle, where you can also park. Saturday evening Mass is at 7.30 pm (as of 2026, Bartholomäberg municipality). We like to combine the church with the walk to the Fritzensee at around 1,440 m through the Maisäß landscape, or with a meal at the Alpengasthaus Rellseck.
