Parish church St. Gallenkirch

The parish church of St Gallus stands in the middle of St. Gallenkirch, set lengthways to the road and surrounded by the churchyard. A church has been documented here since 1305; today's building goes back to the late-Gothic church of 1474, consecrated in 1483. The extension and tower followed in 1669, the onion dome in 1720 and the new nave in 1725. Inside, the periods mingle: restoration work in 1996 uncovered Gothic frescoes from around 1500 (the Fall of Man, the Adoration of the Magi, the Baptism of Jesus), above which sit Christoph Klausner's ceiling paintings of 1774. High altar and side altars date from the 1780s, and the organ of about 1787 was rebuilt by Pflüger in 2000/01. Five bronze bells hang in the 38 m north tower, the oldest cast in 1560.

From our house it is 1.2 km – a stroll along the old country road or two minutes by car; bus 650 stops right by the village centre. We suggest it as a short stop before shopping in the village or on the way to the Aquarena pool. Mass is at 8.45 am on Sundays and 7 pm on Wednesdays (as of 2026, Pfarrverband Innermontafon).
