Winter sports exhibition Tschagguns

Skiing has a long history in the Montafon: skiing is first documented here in 1895, Schruns founded a winter sports club in 1906 and Tschagguns in 1907, and a few years later the first guests arrived for ski lessons. The winter sports exhibition in Tschagguns traces this development from the pioneer days via the region's racers to ski technology and uphill transport – from the wooden plank with strap binding to the cable car. Its basis is the winter sports collection of Helmut Marent, who assembled skis, bindings, equipment and photographs over decades and handed the collection to the Montafon museums in 2022; since then it has been cared for as part of the museum family. It is not a regular public museum, however: visits are possible only with a guided tour, booked through the Heimatmuseum in Schruns; in the summer months there have recently been free short tours on Monday afternoons – ask for current dates.

The exhibition is in the centre of Tschagguns near the municipal office, 10.4 km or 12 minutes from our house; take bus 650 to Schruns and the 601 on to Tschagguns Gemeindeamt, or the Montafonerbahn to Tschagguns. For groups and ski clubs on a winter holiday it is a fitting bad-weather item, combinable with the pilgrimage church on the hill opposite or the Aktivpark with its ski-jumping hills.
