Edelweiss Tour Gargellen

The Edelweiss Tour is a mountain run without technical difficulties: 8.4 km there and back, 395 m of ascent, from 1,422 m in Gargellen up to 1,817 m at the Vergaldaalpe. From the cable-car car park you pass the Fun Forest high-rope course to the Vergalda stream and then climb steadily, but never steeply, into the valley. The Vergalda valley is a quiet side valley behind Gargellen with views of the peaks along the Swiss border; red deer, chamois and ibex live here. The path is a broad alp track that people even push prams along – so it is well suited to running, with an even pace uphill and a fast return. The turning point is the Vergaldaalpe, the last working dairy alp in the Gargellen valley: during the alpine summer butter, cheese and the tangy Montafon Sura Kees are made here, and if you take a break both end up on your table. The best time is the morning while the valley is still cool; the alp is only staffed in summer. Gargellen is 12 minutes by car from our house or about 20 minutes on bus 670 to the Schafbergbahn stop.
