The Muttjöchle is described in Vorarlberg media as “the mountain with the most beautiful view” – and indeed the view from the summit (2,074 m) stretches over the Montafon, the Rätikon and the Verwall to the Arlberg. The summit trail starts at the summit station of the Kristberg cable car, leads through the Muttwald and over alpine meadows with a good 600 m of ascent; around 7.5 km and 3½ hours for ascent and descent, moderate, without tricky sections.

Variants continue over the Sonnenkopf into the Klostertal or loop back to the Kristberg. Refreshments at the summit station; cable car included with the Freizeit-WildPass.

The route leads from Öffentliche Toiletten Kristbergbahn Bergstation via Kristberg, Muttwald and Muttgrad and back to the starting point.

Start early – summer afternoons often bring thunderstorms. Carry enough water; many huts are only open from late June to late September.

From the holiday house in St. Gallenkirch the starting point is easy to reach by Landbus (stop 400 m away) or car – see the travel notes.

Landbus 680 Schruns–Silbertal to the Kristberg cable car valley station; hiking bus into the upper Silbertal (summer). From St. Gallenkirch via Schruns approx. 35 min.
