Short Loop St. Gallenkirch–Galgenul

Half an hour, 1.8 km: the short village loop from St. Gallenkirch parish church via Galgenul and the Zamangweg – a first walk in the snow after arriving.

easy winter · 12-3 🐕 Dogs allowed
Elevation profile↗ 76 m ↘ 78 m

The short loop links the centre of St. Gallenkirch (878 m) with the western district of Galgenul, where the Valisera and Grasjoch cable cars start up into the ski area. From the parish church of St Gallus – built in 1474 and enlarged in 1669 – you pass the council depot to Galgenul, climb gently along the hillside via Dossel and the Zamangweg and return to the start by the village hall. 1.81 km, 76 m of ascent, about 30 minutes – more a stroll than a hike, on cleared village streets and rolled paths, with views over the rooftops to the snowy slopes of the Hochjoch opposite.

The start is two minutes from our house and the St. Gallenkirch bus stop (lines 650/670) is 400 m away; there is parking at the church and the municipal office and at the Valisera cable car. We recommend the loop for the evening you arrive, for the hour before dinner or with small children who do not want to walk far yet. If you would like a longer outing, add the Badmunt loop, which starts at the same point.
