This loop links the two parts of the village our house sits between, using two different paths: 6.9 km, 160 m of ascent, around two hours, classified by the state of Vorarlberg as an easy winter trail. From the centre of St. Gallenkirch you climb past the community hall to Innerziggam on the sunny slope above the village, pass Kloster Maria Hilf – home since 1955 to the Franciscan Sisters of Maria Hilf, who took over a mountain farm here and now run a guesthouse – and walk via the farms of Außergant and Innergant and the Allmeinweg down into the centre of Gortipohl. The return follows the river: via the Blendolmaweg onto the Illweg, past the Garfrescha Bahn valley station back to St. Gallenkirch.

According to state data, just under two thirds of the route is groomed and the rest cleared; the upper path offers the better views of the Grasjoch and Valisera opposite, the Illweg the easier walking surface. As the loop passes through Gortipohl, you can also start it directly from our house and walk it in either direction. Refreshments in both parts of the village; buses 650 and 670 stop in St. Gallenkirch and Gortipohl.
