Circular hike Schruns
Flat village loop through Schruns and Tschagguns: 3.7 km along the Litzpromenade, Illweg and Aktivpark – ideal for a stroll after coffee on the Kirchplatz.
Schruns (690 m) is the main town of the Montafon, and this loop shows its relaxed side: 3.7 km, just 31 m of ascent, about an hour and a quarter. From the Kirchplatz with the Montafon local history museum you follow the Litz – the 24 km river from the Silbertal that joins the Ill here – along the Litzpromenade to Tschagguns station, continue on the Illweg to the Aktivpark Montafon with its alpine pool and ice rink, and return to the centre along the Wagenweg past the football stadium. By the way, Ernest Hemingway spent a long winter here in 1925/26 at the Hotel Taube, a few steps from the Kirchplatz.
The paths are listed in the state network as cleared winter trails, so they are practically always walkable, even with a pushchair or a sledge in tow, unless fresh snow has just fallen. Refreshments everywhere in Schruns; combine it with the museum or a swim at the Alpenbad. From our house, bus 650 takes around 15 minutes to Schruns; if you use the Hochjoch Bahn car park, parking and start are right next to each other.
